Feel like you’re just going with the flow, day in and day out?
Are you living your life in a constant state of resistance, reacting to what other people say or do? Or are you living your life on your terms, with intention?
Living with intention means that you are consciously aware of the choices, direction, and actions you take daily. To be in constant communication with yourself and make deliberate decisions and take specific measures to bring value and joy to your life.
Here are my six daily tips on how you can create a greater life. A life you love, with intention… on purpose!
1. Tune out the noise – and tune into you
Put your phone down, turn off the TV and just be present! Tune out the noise and distractions. Think of this analogy:
When you’re in the city the stars at night are dim – even hard to see. That visual noise of the city lights diminish the intensity of the bright stars that are right there in front of you!
But in the country, away from all the noise and distractions – those exact same stars are stunningly bright and beautiful! You’ll see them in a whole new light (pun intended!)!
2. Set a morning intention
Whether it’s the night before – or first thing in the morning, set your intentions for each day. Your big ask for the day! It could be a few words, a phrase, or a reminder of what you would like to be – and do for that day. Behaviours and actions that reflect your values and what you desire.
Incorporate your daily intentions into your morning routine, put it on a sticky note or when you wake up, simply put your hand on your heart and state your morning intention before you get out of bed. There’s no right or wrong – you’re creating it using your power within.
3. Identify the way you want to feel each day
Every morning, ask yourself how you want to feel today. Tune into what inspires and motivates you? What actions can you take to achieve that? Tap in and decide what activities you’re creating in your day that will bring fulfilment. Surround yourself with things that act as a reminder of what it is that you truly want – and what will inspire you to feel and be THAT.
4. Refocus and infuse intentionality into every activity
Ask yourself what your intentions are for the day. Then make sure each action aligns with your intentions. Focus on what you want, the outcome and feelings you desire.
It isn’t about overhauling your life. It’s about converging your actions with your targets. Break it down into bite size pieces. Whatever activity you need to do, turn on a timer and commit to focusing on that one single action for 10 or 15 minutes. It’s amazing how productive we can be when we decide to intentionally concentrate on a task. It can inspire us to go even further. Take one intentional step at a time, and before you know it, you’ll reach your desired destination.
5. Create small shifts
Make the best choices for yourself every day – even the smallest decisions and acts can result in big changes! Start by saying “Just for today I will….” Or “Just for now I will….” Be deeply grateful to yourself for choosing more and appreciate every nugget of progress.
6. Recount your intentions
It’s important that at the end of each day, you acknowledge all your progress. Replay how you’ve intentionally contributed to yourself throughout the day, living with purpose. Say it out loud or write it down – it’s important to recognize your successes. The goal is progress – not perfection.
Each day is a brand-new day with fresh, delicious opportunities.
You can either choose to continue facing the same resistances and challenges, questioning why something doesn’t work, doubting yourself or your abilities. OR you can make small adjustments everyday, embracing your core values and beliefs that will lead you to where you truly want to go.
Always remember that if you need an accountability partner, mentor or coach, don’t be afraid to ask for help!
