Why letting go of your stories can transform your year

Have you ever found yourself longing for change—whether in your relationships, career, or daily habits—only to feel like it stays just out of reach? It’s a familiar feeling for many of us. We crave transformation but often find ourselves held back, unsure why things aren’t shifting in the direction we want.

One of the biggest reasons this happens is the stories we tell ourselves. These are the inner narratives that whisper, “You’re not good enough,” or “Change is too hard,” or even, “You’ve missed your chance.” These stories can feel so real that they become part of our identity, making it difficult to step into the change we’re truly asking for.

But here’s the truth: these stories are just that—stories. They’re not the unchangeable reality of who you are. Until we identify and release these limiting beliefs, we’ll continue to feel stuck, even when we’re desperately ready for something new.

The Power of Connecting with Your Wins

So, how do we start to break free from these stories and make room for genuine change? One of the most powerful ways is by connecting with our wins. Yes, even the smallest victories matter. Celebrating these moments creates space for growth and allows us to see our journey through a lens of possibility.

Let me share a story to illustrate this.

During  last years Wrap Up Your Year with a Win  masterclass, Lisa, a participant  shared her story.. Lisa felt completely stuck and frustrated. From her perspective, her year had been full of setbacks, and she struggled to see anything worth celebrating. In her mind, she hadn’t made any meaningful progress in her career or personal goals.

Lisa’s Breakthrough Moment

During the Connect exercise—where we take the time to honor and acknowledge our wins—Lisa had a breakthrough. As she reflected and shared with the group, she began to realize that she had actually made some incredibly courageous choices over the year. She had started saying “no” to opportunities that didn’t align with her true vision, which was something she had never done before. She’d also set healthier boundaries in her relationships, creating more space and energy to focus on what mattered most to her.

What she initially saw as setbacks were, in fact, powerful moments of growth. By connecting with her wins, Lisa reframed her entire year. Instead of feeling defeated, she recognized her inner strength and the significant progress she had made. This realization didn’t just lift her spirits; it filled her with confidence and a renewed sense of purpose, setting her up to dream even bigger for the upcoming year.

Shifting Your Perspective

Lisa’s story is a powerful reminder of why connecting with your wins is so essential. It’s easy to get caught up in what didn’t go as planned and forget to acknowledge the progress we’ve made, no matter how small. But when we intentionally take time to celebrate these moments, it shifts our perspective and lays a foundation for even greater growth.

Connecting with your wins isn’t just about feeling good in the moment; it’s about building the resilience and self-belief needed to step into the future with clarity and confidence.
