Why Is Showing Up for Yourself So Difficult?

Mar 22, 2025

We show up for our kids.

We show up for our partners.

We show up for work, aging parents, friends, and commitments.

But when it comes to showing up for ourselves—our dreams, health, well-being, and the things that truly matter to us—it suddenly feels like the hardest thing in the world.

Why is that? Why do we hesitate, hold back, or put ourselves last?

If you’ve ever told yourself:

“I’ll start next week.”

“I just don’t have time.”

“It probably won’t work for me anyway.”

“I feel selfish for putting myself first.”

You’re not alone.

Why Is It So Hard?

Because for years—decades even—we’ve been conditioned to believe that showing up for ourselves is less important than showing up for everyone else. That our worth is tied to how much we do for others. That prioritizing our own growth, health, or happiness is selfish.

But here’s the truth:

When you don’t show up for yourself, you’re teaching the world (and yourself) that you don’t matter.

Think about it:

Would you tell your best friend that she doesn’t deserve time for herself?

Would you tell your daughter to shrink herself in order to be loved and accepted?

Would you tell someone you care about that they should always put themselves last?

No? Then why do we do it to ourselves?

Are You Showing Up for You?

Let’s flip the script. Instead of asking:

“Who needs me today?”

Ask yourself:

“How can I show up for myself today?”

Because when you show up for yourself:

You create momentum in your life.

You build trust with yourself.

You model self-respect and confidence for those around you.

You step into the version of YOU that you deserve to be.

It’s not about doing everything at once. It’s about doing something.

A Small Shift That Changes Everything

I want you to think of one small way you can show up for yourself today.

Maybe it’s five minutes of quiet reflection before the day begins.

Maybe it’s saying NO to something that drains you.

Maybe it’s finally taking that first step toward something you’ve been putting off.

The key? Don’t wait until you “feel ready.”

Because readiness isn’t what moves you forward—action does.

Your Exclusive Path to Freedom Call

If this speaks to you and you’re realizing that fear, doubt, or old beliefs are holding you back from showing up fully in your life, I’d love to invite you to an Exclusive Path to Freedom Call.

This isn’t a coaching session—it’s a private space where we can take an honest look at where fear is keeping you stuck and explore what’s possible when you start showing up for YOU.

If this resonates with you, let’s chat.  Book your call here!

You don’t have to have it all figured out. You just need to be willing to take the first step.

With love,

At some point, we all absorb labels—words that shaped how we see ourselves. Sometimes they came from childhood. Sometimes from a job, a relationship, a passing comment that stuck longer than it should’ve. “You’re the responsible one.” “You’re too sensitive.” “You...
