Embracing Wonderment in Personal Change

Nov 1, 2023

Susan, I’m done with the relationship I’m in, but I’m scared to be alone for the rest of my life. Can you help me?

Change is a part of life. Sometimes, it fills us with excitement, but it can also bring a fair share of fear and trepidation. Let’s journey alongside someone today – Emily. She’s 50 years old, and she’s on the brink of a significant personal life change.

You see, Emily has realized that her long-term relationship is no longer making her happy, and she’s ready for a fresh start. Yet, the fear of the unknown is gnawing at her, making her anxious. In this blog post, let’s not only discuss how to deal with the fear of change but also how to harness the power of self-talk, affirmations, and wonderment as we guide you through your personal transformation journey.

1. Acknowledging and Understanding Fear

Now, let’s have a self-talk moment, Emily. Remember, it’s perfectly okay to feel scared when you’re on the cusp of change. Ask yourself, “What about this change that fills me with fear?” And your second question might be, “Who did I learn that from?”

Acknowledge that fear is a learned response to stepping out of your comfort zone. Embrace it as a sign that you’re embarking on a journey filled with wonder and potential. The truth is the chemicals in our bodies that run off of fear are the same ones that run with excitement.

So, MY third question for you is: Truth, is this fear or excitement of new possibilities that I’m feeling?”

2. Clarifying Personal Targets and Values

As you reflect, ask yourself, “What is it that truly fills me with wonderment? What are my long-term dreams and values in creating a life that I love, and how do the changes that I’m asking for align with that?” Journal your responses. Reread them engaging in self-talk and affirming, “My choices are now in harmony with my deepest values, and this journey of personal growth is filled with wonderment and adventure.”

I suggest you put that on a sticky note around everywhere so you can say it aloud to yourself two or three times a day. Remember, where you put your attention is where the energy grows.

3. Embracing Personal Growth

Emily here’s where self-talk and affirmations can truly work wonders. What if the change isn’t just about saying goodbye to the past; it’s about embracing personal growth and empowerment.

What if stepping into a journey of wonderment and self-discovery created a stronger, wiser, and more fulfilled version of who you be?

In your personal journey of transformation, remember that asking questions about what’s true for you (not for someone else) and positive affirmations are your trusted companions. Whether it’s a fresh start in your relationship, a career shift, or any significant personal change, remind yourself that being in the question of your life is a guiding force. This change is challenging, no doubt, but it’s also a source of wonder that propels you into a journey of personal transformation and empowerment. So, let’s make our self-talk kind, our affirmations powerful, and our perspectives filled with wonderment as we embrace change and its beautiful potential. And remember to always check in with yourself, aligning your thoughts and emotions with the love and happiness you seek in your life.”

4. Seek Guidance on Your Transformation Journey

As you embrace change and its wonderment, remember you don’t have to navigate this journey alone. Consider seeking the guidance of a life coach or mentor like myself, who can offer valuable insights, support, and a roadmap to your personal transformation. What would it feel like to have a mentor as your steadfast companion as you embark on this journey of growth, resilience, and self-discovery?

What Happens When You Finally Say No?

There’s a kind of no that changes everything. Not the frantic, overwhelmed no that comes when we’re already stretched too thin. But the quiet, grounded no that comes from knowing yourself. From asking: Does this work for me? Does this feel aligned with the life I want...

What to Do When Someone Misjudges You

How often have you tried to change yourself to fit someone else’s expectations? How often have you taken someone’s words, their look, their opinion, and made it mean something about your worth? If you’re like me, you know how easy it is to slip into that pattern. And...

Resentment Isn’t the End—It’s the Invitation

Have you ever resented someone—not because they wronged you—but because they did something you didn’t believe you could? Maybe they left the life they were “supposed” to live. Maybe they set a boundary you didn’t know you were allowed to have. Maybe they chose joy...
