When Was the Last Time You Felt Genuinely Happy with What You’ve Achieved?

Sep 7, 2024

When was the last time you felt genuinely happy with what you’ve achieved? If it’s been a while, you’re not alone. We often get caught up in the demands of life, focusing on what’s going wrong instead of celebrating our successes. But what if I told you that everything in your life can change when you start giving yourself reasons to feel good about who you are?

Hi, I’m Susan Lazar Hart, your transformational mindset coach. Today, I want to share three simple tools that have made a huge difference in my life, and I’ll also invite you to participate in a reset challenge that could help you even more.

How I Used to Let Myself Down

A few weeks ago, I shared how I used to let myself down. When a new relationship or business opportunity appeared, I’d get scared that people wouldn’t see me as good as they thought, so I’d disappear.

This self-sabotage often looked like not following up on a proposal to be on a TV series or ducking out on reward events created just for me.

That pattern gave me plenty of reasons to feel bad about myself. I got caught in cycles of self-judgment, and that’s where my focus stayed—until I started doing the deep inner work that made me realize I could choose something different. Through reflection, self-compassion, and questioning my old patterns, I began to see that I wasn’t stuck; I had the power to change my story.

What We Focus On Expands

As the saying goes, “What we focus on expands.” So, how did I reset my focus to give myself the energy to feel good again? I did three simple things:

  1. I started asking myself different questions. Instead of focusing on what might go wrong, I asked, “What small step can I take today to receive all that the universe has planned for me?”
  2. I took small, manageable actions and celebrated every single one. This built my confidence step by step.
  3. I focused on ONE thing at a time, building a habit around that one action before moving on to the next.

This was the reset I needed. It created evidence that I was honoring my word to myself by showing up. This is how we start changing our thoughts, beliefs, and habits.

Breaking the Cycle of Self-Doubt

It’s easy to get caught up in thinking that we’re not good enough, and before we know it, we’ve given ourselves all the evidence we need to believe that lie. But here’s the truth: it doesn’t have to be this way. You don’t have to keep letting yourself down.

So, I decided to change the way I talked to myself. Instead of asking, “What if I mess up?” or “What if I’m not good enough?” I started asking myself different questions that shifted my focus from fear to possibility. I asked, “What small step can I take today to improve my confidence in creating a life I would love to celebrate?”

By focusing on small, manageable actions that aligned with my true goals and desires, I was able to break free from that cycle of self-doubt. Each small step became a victory, helping me build confidence and momentum. This wasn’t just about doing things differently but about thinking differently. And with each small success, I started to see myself in a new light—capable, resilient, and worthy of the life I was working toward.

Taking Action Before You Feel Ready

I’ve learned that waiting to feel more confident or positive before taking action doesn’t work. By taking those small steps, we begin to shift our thoughts and beliefs.

So often, people want to change their thoughts and beliefs—and THEN they think they’ll change their actions. They tell themselves they must feel more confident or have more positive thoughts before taking action.

But that doesn’t work. We change our thoughts and beliefs by taking new actions supporting our desires.

We can spend years in our heads trying to change our thoughts and beliefs. But I guess that you don’t want to spend years trying to change something; you want to change it now.
