What Happens When You Look in the Mirror and Say “I Love You”?

May 15, 2025

There’s something tender, almost sacred, about a quiet Sunday. A day where the world slows down just enough for you to hear your own heart.

And today, I want to invite you into a moment that might just shift everything.

This week in our Over 50, Fabulous and Thriving community, we returned to a timeless practice from Louise Hay—something I call “mirror love.”

Here’s the practice:

Go to the mirror.

Look yourself in the eyes—not past them, not through them, but into them.

And say out loud:

“I love you. I really, really love you.

How can I make you happy today?”

Sounds simple, right? But don’t let that simplicity fool you.

Most of us, especially as women over 50, have spent a lifetime looking outward.

Outward for approval.

Outward for belonging.

Outward for answers.

But this practice?

It calls us inward.

It asks us to soften.

To stop waiting for someone else to permit us to feel good.

To ask ourselves what we truly need—and to listen.

When I first began doing this, I couldn’t hold my own gaze for more than a few seconds.

I’d see judgment, fatigue, old stories.

But over time, something shifted.

My reflection started to feel less like an image and more like a conversation.

A relationship.

A reunion.

And here’s the truth I’ve come to believe with every cell of my being:

The planet loves joy.

Your joy matters.

And when you choose yourself—not out of ego, but out of reverence—you become a force of light in a world that needs exactly who you are.

So today, I invite you to return to the mirror.

Not to fix or critique—but to love.

To honor your commitment to being here—with joy, grace, and happiness.

Ask yourself, “How can I make you happy today?”

Then listen.

And maybe… just maybe… you’ll start to remember that everything you’ve been seeking is already inside you.
