Midlife Transition or Midlife Crisis? What That Stuck Feeling Is Really Telling You

Jun 18, 2025

You’re not broken—you’re becoming.

How to reframe the in-between and find your bold next step.

Have you ever found yourself staring into space and thinking:

“Whose life is this? And how did I get here?”

It happens more than we talk about—especially in midlife.

You’ve done the things.
Raised the kids. Navigated the career. Showed up for others.

And now?

Now there’s this strange silence. A fog.
A sense of disconnection from the life you thought you’d built.

A woman recently shared with me:

“I feel so lost. I don’t know what I want anymore.”

And it made me wonder:

What if you’re not lost?
What if you’re in transition?

 The Truth About Feeling Lost

We often confuse lost with being in the in-between.

But here’s the difference:

  • Feeling lost triggers panic, shame, or urgency.
    You might think:

“I should have figured this out by now.”
“There must be something wrong with me.”

  • Being in transition, though, is natural.
It’s the space between who you were… and who you’re becoming.

Like crossing a bridge—you’ve let go of the old, but you’re not quite at the new.
It’s a pause. A reset. A threshold moment.

And yes, it can feel uncomfortable.
But it’s not wrong.
It’s not failure.
It’s where growth begins.

My Own In-Between Moment

Years ago, I found myself in one of those uncertain places.
After leaving my art career for health reasons, I had no idea what came next.

Who was I without the identity I had poured myself into?

It was quiet. It was messy. It felt like nothing was happening.

But underneath, everything was shifting.
That “lost” feeling was the space I needed to hear the next version of me calling.

Not through force, but through curiosity.

What If You Let It Be a Transition?

What if you permitted yourself to be in that in-between space?

To stop rushing.
To stop labelling it as wrong.
To simply ask:

  • What am I letting go of?
  • What wants to emerge?
  • What am I being invited to notice?

The answers might not be loud.
But they’re there—quietly waiting to be heard.

 Over to You

If any of this resonates, I’d love to hear from you in the comments:

What’s one thing you’re letting go of—and one thing you’re making space for?

And if you’re in this in-between place and ready for guidance, support, or clarity on your next step… let’s connect.

You’re not behind.
You’re becoming.
One bold step at a time.
