How to self-care your way to self love

Feb 10, 2022

When was the last time you fell in love with you?

Sound selfish?

Nope, not at all.
In fact it’s the healthiest thing you can do for yourself.

Last week I shared with you how to create a successful relationship, which ultimately comes down to creating a loving relationship with yourself first.

Here’s what no one will teach you.

Your primary relationship is the one you create with you.

Every other relationship is really just a byproduct of your relationship with yourself.

Most people, when they hear ‘love yourself first’, translate it into doing.

They think about going for a manicure and pedicure, maybe indulging in a day of shopping and spoiling themselves, not that there’s anything wrong with self indulgent time out
(personally, I love shopping therapy).

But the truth is, that lasts just as long as the ‘high’ you are looking for and actually takes away from the primary focus of true self-care.

Let’s back up for just a moment and think about all the things you got clear in needing within a relationship last week, (if you haven’t checked out last week’s blog, read Are you clear with what you want in a relationship? ).

Those elements are key to understanding what self-care can create for you.

Self-care is about tapping in and tuning in to your intuition as well as your internal dialogue to understand yourself on a deeper level.

It means that you are simply being mindful of your own needs, so you are better able to support the people you care about.

What if you are uncertain of where to start in your self-care journey and what steps to take to start building the relationship with yourself?

Where is the best place to even begin?

4 Steps for creating possibilities

Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered. I’m about to share with you 4 steps that are incredibly powerful in creating possibilities for you in reconnecting to yourself.

1. Let go of the stress of everyday

While it’s impossible to eliminate all stress in life, it’s crucial to come up with healthy ways to help you deal with it.

Take some time to get quiet, read a book, or go somewhere by yourself and simply be present, or create a time in the day just for you, not for anyone else, but you.

What would that look like for you?

Find something that works for you. Maybe meditation, deep breathing, gardening or tapping into that vision that you have for yourself in the future.

Ask yourself, what do you need in your relationship with yourself to feel your love and then set aside the time to make it happen.

2. Go out and go for a walk with yourself.

Walking is a great time to reflect and become present with our bodies, our minds and our souls.

When we move the body, we enhance our mood, which naturally will increase your connection to yourself and how you feel about yourself.

We make peace with ourselves when we feel good;

It’s the chance to turn off all the noise and be present.

3. Introduce gratitude with affirmations

Now I am not just talking about looking in the mirror and telling myself random affirmations.

I mean affirming the love we have for ourselves.

It is the willingness to affirm that I love and accept myself unconditionally.

Try it out and see how your body shifts and changes

Are you willing to fall in love with you?

4. Spend time with like minded individuals

Spend time with people who love themselves, who love to be alive, who live in joy.

That’s energy, and when we surround ourselves with like energy, we naturally begin to attract it.

There is a saying that we are the sum of the 5 people we spend most of our time with.

If you are spending most of your time around individuals who don’t fully love and accept themselves, chances are you will begin to feel the same way about yourself.

Yet, if you surround yourself around people who are positive in their relationship with themselves and work consistently on building a positive connection and love for themselves in every way, it makes sense that you will begin to do the same for yourself!

Begin with these 4 steps.

These are the most intentional steps to take to reconnect to the most important relationship you have in your life: The relationship with yourself.
