Imagine waking up every morning feeling fulfilled, joyful, and completely aligned with your true desires—what if the key to this magical life was simply honoring the promises you make to yourself?
What Does Honoring Your Word Mean?
Honoring your word to yourself means keeping your own promises to you. It’s about building trust with yourself in your abilities to follow through on commitments, laying the foundation for a more congruent life.
When you honor your word to yourself, you are not just dreaming or planning but implementing steps to build a solid foundation for living a life that feels authentic and aligned with your personal beliefs and aspirations.
When you habitually do what you say, everything changes—not only for you but also for those around you.
Why is Honoring Your Word Important?
We’re often taught to prioritize others, leading us to neglect ourselves. Today, let’s change that. Here are three questions to help you start honoring your commitments to yourself:
Question 1: What Would I Love to Create in My Life?
- What do you want to create in your life?
- What does that require of you?
Identify your desires first, then determine what you need to achieve them. Write down your goals in one column and what you’ll need to do in another. Reflect on whether you need to give something up or add something in. This is about honoring your word to yourself in creating a life you truly love .
Question 2: What Would It Feel Like to Accomplish That One Special Goal or Target?
This question connects you to your “why.” Six months from now, if you’ve added something wonderful to your life, does it fill your bucket with joy? Be honest to ensure you’re doing this for yourself, not for external approval.
Question 3: What Am I Willing to Let Go Of?
- What can you let go of to honor yourself?
- Which old stories are holding you back?
Get honest about what fills your life with joy and what doesn’t. Now’s the time to let go of old stories that are holding you back and step forward in a new fulfilling direction.
The Importance of Baby Steps
Honoring your word will become a habit. Baby steps of success—taking a step, honoring your word, and seeing it works—reinforce this practice, breaking the habit of neglecting your dreams to please others.
Important question:
– Is this goal or target for you or someone else?
Common Struggles
After 14 years of coaching, I’ve found two main struggles in honoring one’s word:
- Lack of clarity about what they want.
- Holding onto old stories, often subconsciously.
